It’s my
first note here but I would like to look retrospectively how it turned out that
now I’m starting a blog about music. I guess it was 2006 when friend of mine
showed me ‘American Idiot’ by Green Day and well, it blew my mind. Then I began
exploration of music world on my own, firstly getting to know other stuff from
Billy Joe Armstrong and company. There was short time spent on listening to
metal (Metallica-like and heavier) but it didn’t take long until I realized
that I should go for something different even if then I could tell it’s
really good music. It just wasn’t for me to listen on daily basis but from time
to time why not?
Then I
tried punk rock. On the beginning more locally, because Poland where I come
from, as you may or may not know has great punk rock history. There were a few
bands I would like to listen but maybe because I wasn’t all in punk subculture eventually
I mostly gave up on it. Later I’d listen to some bands associated in that genre
like Bad Religion, The Offspring or Rise Against and even up until now. Rise
Against has the 2nd highest score on my LastFM list.
A breakthrough
point was for me discovering grunge. It all started from Nirvana but when I
listened to them for the first time I had no idea what grunge was and I guess
it could be even on the beginning of my journey. What I remember is that
Nevermind was the first CD that was my own and it was like huge thing for me because
then I favored buying music albums over anything else. Then I discovered other
bands from Seattle grunge big four and in the end I chose Pearl Jam as my
favorite band of all time.
And if you
got up to this point, I’m almost at the end. Then I started to look for another
bands and really opened my mind to new sounds, which I couldn’t be happier
about because it let me enjoy music more and more. The artists which I mentioned
before weren’t only ones important to me of course. I should mention Guns ‘n’
Roses, Foo Fighters, Incubus, Audioslave… and many, many more which I listened
to countless times and influenced me like a lot.
Every time
I think that I won’t find anything new what I would like to listen to, I
discover it and then I can’t stop playing it over and over again. Last time it
happened with Counting Crows, which resulted in over 1200 plays in 4 months,
while listening to other artists of course.
