Top 10 music videos

Today I would like to present my top 10 of music videos. This list is fully subjective and I’m aware that I could miss some awesome ones. I won’t mind if you will show them to me in comments and I hope you will. Sometimes I really had hard times to decide which one to choose and I can’t even tell how many times I changed the order of this list.

10. The White Stripes ‘Hardest Button To Button’

Multiplying sets of instruments and teleportation in the rhythm of the song, that’s the concept of this video. It must have been a lot of work to prepare everything but the final effect is really impressive, especially because it was filmed in multiple locations (subway included).

9. Soundgarden ‘Black Hole Sun’

On first sight there’s peaceful neighbourhood on the suburbs but only then. It turns out to be really creepy and surreal and then when it comes to an end only band remain playing. The special effects for now look old but when video was released they probably rocked.

8. Radiohead ‘Karma Police’

‘Karma Police’ is a little bit creepy with unknown person chasing with a car,  running guy. But gloomy climate of this video suits perfectly to the song and reflects how the karma works.

7. Guns ‘n’ Roses ‘November Rain’

‘November Rain’ is a first part of unofficial video trilogy and the other two are ‘Don’t Cry’ and ‘Estranged’. While filming it had a budget 1 million and it’s noticeable with all the people who take part in it, changing cinematography and usage of helicopter, not mentioning renting of the whole theater.

6. Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’

It’s not exactly music video but short film, which turned out to be the one that began something like new era in music videos, making artists explore more this form of presenting their music. ‘Thriller’ video was created in 1983 and up until now it’s interesting to watch and there’s no wonder that it deserves appreciation.

5. Pearl Jam ‘Jeremy’

Video presents history of a boy named Jeremy, who struggles through life and eventually meets tragic end. Scraps of text, which regularly appear on screen, give us an idea about situation. Watching the video you should notice that Jeremy is surrounded by statues. Overall it made huge impression on me. If you like Pearl Jam watch also ‘Do The Evolution’ video.

4. Foo Fighters ‘Learn To Fly’

If you’re interested why Jack Black and Kyle Gass from Tanacious D made Foo Fighters learn how to fly you’ll definitely enjoy this video. It’s comic and exaggerated a little but really pleasant to watch. Every member of the band had multiple roles in the performance but Dave Grohl’s definitely a star here.

3. The Black Keys ‘Tighten Up’

How regular meeting at the park can end up as shameful fight between two gown man? The reason must be a woman. The whole video can be summed up with a proverb ‘like father, like son’ and is something you must watch at least once.

2. Johnny Cash ‘Hurt’

It’s gloomy video, which shows how Man in Black reflection about life, during which there are presented some shots of his early days. At some point it’s poignant as you notice that Cash isn’t in the best condition during filming and even more when you realise he died just seven months after.

1. OK Go ‘Needing/Getting’

I really enjoy watching their videos because they’re so great and had problem which one should I choose. Even though I don’t know their music too well I love clips. In this particular one they’re go through special track making music with… a car. In other I like they play with perspective and in another with constructions. Can’t wait to see next one.
